RefTech staff committed to sustainability

Specialist badging supplier, RefTech, has always been committed to sustainability in its business activities. Apart from working with a local waste disposal operator to recycle as much of its waste as possible, re-using boxes, finding a partner company to re-cycle plastic badges, researching the market to develop a compostible badge and working hard to cut energy use, two of the company’s staff has gone one step further: re-using printer ribbons.

Two of the team, Celia Collins and Lisa Faulkner, pitched in and knitted bottle hats for the quirky drinks company Innocent. That inspired them to think about how the ribbons used to produce the company’s plastic badges could be re-used. Now they have knitted a bag from used printer ribbons.

A sample of their work can be seen on the RefTech stand B602.

RefTech sales manager Penny Colclough said, ‘This started as a bit of fun on the part of Celia and Lisa and I suspect that they don’t want us coming back from IMEX with orders for thousands of bags, but it’s this sort of idea that helps to remind everybody of the importance of finding uses for material that would otherwise just be waste products.’
